The Philharmonic Winds in Concert: An Evening with Tim Reynish. Why You Should Attend! Philwinds re-unites with world-renowned conductor Timothy Reynish in an evening of music in celebration of his 70th birthday. A former President of WASBE, and a frequent commissioner of new works for band (SYF '07 Set Piece composer Adam Gorb is one of them), Maestro Reynish is an eminent figure in the wind music scene. { we are strongly encouraged to go .they are playing some world premier pieces cans? world premier ye, that means if we go, we will be one of the first to hear the piece before the rest of the world does. cool nehs. so muz gogogogo! } Pieces played are: Vranjanka by Kenneth Hesketh A Middle-Eastern-flavoured work that is filled with woodwind runs and exciting melodies, characteristic of Hesketh's oeuvre. Symphonie Bombastique { world premier } by Goh Toh Chai A world premiere, this piece was specially commissioned by Tim Reynish as part of his 70th birthday celebrations. Find out why it's not called 'Bombastique' for nothing! In Wartime by David Del Tredici The composer's name might not be familiar to wind music enthusiasts here, but Del Tredici is a respected orchestral composer, and this first work for wind orchestra – a reaction to the Iraqi war – delivers a very impactful message indeed. Be ready to hear war sirens rising above the orchestral sounds! U Trau by Christopher Marshall It's not every day that we see two bands on stage. Add a big choir to that, and we see the three groups delivering Marshall's call for an ideal world, with one voice. Dances from Crete by Adam Gorb Mediterranean influences abound throughout this piece as musical images of the Greek minotaur are invoked. Catch glimpses of the treacherous Samarian Gorge as well, as Philwinds prepares to blow you away with this piece. Concertango (Mvt. I) by Luis Serrano Alarcón Philwinds is honoured to have well-known local saxophonist Fabian Lim lead us in this exciting Spanish-themed feature for alto sax. Be thrilled by Fabian's amazing tone and technicalities, as we piece together images of matadors and bullfights in sunny Spain!
